  • Over 2,300 start-ups are Banco Sabadell customers.
  • The bank has invested in 35 technology companies.
  • Vitalik Buterin, the young prodigy behind Ethereum Blockchain, will be the star of a Blockchain Hackathon prepared by Banco Sabadell, in which developers from all over the globe will take part.

Over the last three years, Banco Sabadell has invested €96 million in start-ups, as a show of its support of emerging technology companies and of its commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. The bank's funding of this type of company amounted to over €90 million, and investment in capital through its investment vehicles BStartup10 and Sabadell Venture was amounted to €6 million.

As a result, Banco Sabadell has over 2,300 customers who are start-ups, and it invests in the capital of 35 companies. Its commitment to this entrepreneurial ecosystem is also evident in BStartup, which for the fourth consecutive year is taking part as a Gold Partner in the start-ups summit 4 Years From Now (4YFN), part of the Barcelona Mobile World Congress (MWC). 4YFN will be held in Barcelona between 27th February and 1st March, and Banco Sabadell will take part through its teams for finance and investment in start-ups, innovation, Fintech and technology.

Yolanda Pérez, director of BStartup: "We are very active in the entrepreneurial ecosystem throughout the country. We have agreements with the main players in this ecosystem. The BStartup team moves to wherever there are interest forums, and we have a high level of capillarity across the region thanks to our specialised branches. We also support start-ups through our participation as the main partners in key events such as 4YFN and South Summit. We want to support entrepreneurs and all other players who are the drivers of this ecosystem: investors, accelerators, technology centres, etc."

Banco Sabadell brings the young prodigy behind Blockchain to Barcelona: Vitalik Buterin

As part of 4YFN, Banco Sabadell is also holding the first Hackathon in Spain dedicated exclusively to the translation of business rules in Smart Contracts into Blockchain, the revolutionary new technology which allows data to be transferred in a simpler and more secure way. For 12 hours on Monday 27th, hackers and developers from all over the world will work in teams mentored by Vitalik Buterin, the young founder of Ethereum and one of the most influential figures in the world of technology.

Banco Sabadell seeks to establish co-creation synergies between technology start-ups and enterprises from the Fintech, Insurtech, Legaltech and Cleantech segments. Companies taking part in this Hackathon include: Microsoft, Zurich, Roca Junyent, Endesa, and the joint venture Banco Sabadell/Zurich. Banco Sabadell is making a firm commitment to open and collaborative innovation models, and to the development of skills in emerging technologies.

Four years supporting 4YFN

Banco Sabadell’s entrepreneurial spirit is evident in the bank's support, for another consecutive year, of 4YFN, the start-ups summit which was created four years ago as part of the Barcelona MWC. In this event, entrepreneurs, investors and large enterprises seek to create closer ties to generate innovation.

In the fourth edition of 4YFN, Banco Sabadell’s BStartup will present 13 start-ups in which Banco Sabadell invests and which are at different stages of development. For some of these, such as Signaturit, WorldCoo, Adsmurai, Red Points and Lead Ratings, this is not the first time they take part in the summit, confirming the soundness of their projects and that Banco Sabadell was right to invest in them.
