BStartup 10 is coordinatedby the BStartup business department, through which Banco Sabadell makes available to technological entrepreneurs a series of products and services specifically adapted to their needs, as well as a network of 67 branches with staff specialised in this type of company.
The five companies selected in this first round are Enigmedia, Red Points,Setpay, Trendipia and Worldcoo.
For Yolanda Pérez, manager of BStartup, “the difficulty involved in selecting these five companies was much greater than we initially envisaged. Both the volume of projects presented - 414 in total - and their very high quality made it very difficult to select the five that will finally receive the investment. For example, the ten finalists were not far behind the five companies selected. We would like to be able to support all of them from the Bank network’s ‘BStartup branches’, as well as with the Bank’s open innovation strategy in those cases where there are synergies.”
Pérez also points out that “it would not surprise us if some of the finalists not selected this time were to present themselves again in the next BStartup 10 round, which will be announced shortly, with projects that are more consolidated, that have achieved interesting results or have redefined their strategy, thus achieving the degree of maturity that we are seeking.”
The BStartup 10 investment committee is made up of people from BStartup, BS Capital, the Bank’s Channels and Innovation Department and Inspirit. They have evaluated mainly the innovation and ambition of the proposal, the team promoting it, the scalability of its sales, the opportunity and size of the market, the validation of that market, the milestones reached and the options for arousing the interest of other investors in the medium term. They have also taken into account the positive impact that participation in the programme could have on the company.
Banco Sabadell has taken a share of around 10% in the companies selected, according above all to their degree of development, their potential and the market’s response to date.
New projects selection round
Next May, Banco Sabadell will open the second round for the selection of projects, to choose the other five start-ups that will complete the BStartup10 programme this year.
Those companies that wish to compete in the programme must be start-ups that are already functioning, that are close to market (with at least an operating prototype, but even better with initial sales) and that have a strong team and significant ambition for growth.
